EDIT Worked on hair a little more after ^snowmask's critique. Will update WIP to reflect this

It's not =bypass2020's birthday but his daughter typed a message to me with her feet which was ADORABLE so I painted her :D

I wanted to try something more realistic, from a reference photograph, and it was SO much fun  Plus, I ended up liking the painting so much it didn't need a texture overlay ... which is MASSIVE progress for me :excited:

Tools: Adobe Photoshop CS3 and Wacom Graphire
Time Taken: About 3 hours.
Layers: Mostly painted on one layer - the hair and last minute highlights were on another.
Reference photograph: [link] 2nd from the bottom :aww: You'll notice it is black and white. Oh yes.

Black and white is actually a very wise move when it comes to referencing for realistic paintings, doesn't so much mess with your choice of palette and provides a better foundation for establishing forms/shapes.

In terms of technicality and progression, this looks to be one step up from your previous piece, "Eyes So Blue". While the realism is very nicely presented with the adequate gleam and mesmerising depths to the eyes, I find a very delicate balance is achieved, where subtle Impressionism comes into play with your loose application of colour, especially the inclusion of cyan values to the skin.

If there were one aspect with room for further development it would be the hair, which seems somewhat detached from the overall arrangement... flat, and inconsequential.

A lovely piece nonetheless, I'd be immensely proud if you were to paint my daughter (in the future) <img src="e.deviantart.com/emoticons/h/h…" width="15" height="13" alt="" title="Heart" />
