So this is what I've been doing at college. Abstract art, lead by the materials not abstracting from a figurative subject.

Translated - throw paint around, see what happens, then go with it.

I drew inspiration from satellite photographs of the earth. You find some amazing photographs in those gorgeous hardback coffee table books that Readers Digest and the like publish :love:

This is acrylic paint, acrylic ink and household enamel on linoleum (yep, the stuff you put on floors) I think it's 12" square, possibly slightly larger.

I really like the white veins to it! And all the swirly colour complicates it...gives it depth...I like. :D

It's quite ridged if you feel it. I'd say at least a cm thick with paint
